Meet the 2019 Island Women Board

The Island Women Board members are the elected fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the non profit has adequate resources to advance its mission.

Kitty McClellan - President

A California native, I moved to Wilmington in August of 2014, after 20 years in the Akron, Ohio area, and now live on the Island.  I am the mother of 4 grown, amazing children who live in various places around the country.  I work at an online business with my two older brothers, so during the workday you'll find me in front of my computer.  I joined Island Women in December of 2014 and haven't looked back!  I love being involved and helping make our community a better place to live.  I've helped guide the Dragon Boat teams, worked on the Sea Turtle nests, and run myself ragged at the Missed Pleasure Island Pageant, among other things.  I decided to step up to help on the Board because I've got some leadership experience and nobody else was willing to do it!  I know this will be a good chance to give back and to help guide the Island Women moving forward.  I hope you'll find your niche in our great organization and create the kinds of friendships I've been blessed to have with these amazing women.

Kelly McAndrew - President-Elect

I am originally from Northeast PA. My husband Patrick and I moved to Carolina Beach in April of ’15. I joined Island Woman that year in August. I consider myself blessed to be living on Pleasure Island and wish to contribute in enhancing our island and supporting its residents and guests. I am a retired Hospice Volunteer Coordinator and devote my time to numerous Island Women committees and projects. I have two wonderful grown sons and two beautiful daughters-in-law who live in PA with a granddaughter expected in April 2020. Patrick and I have two furry boys, Chase and Mugsy. I love spending time on the beach, running, strength training, reading and riding my bike. I also enjoy eating my husband’s gourmet meals, hence the running. I have been an active member with the Reusable Bag Committee, Membership Committee, SHE Committee, Martha’s Kitchen and had formerly been a board member-at -large. For those of you who are new to Island Women, welcome! I urge you to jump in with both feet. You will be rewarded with newly found friendships and rewarding experiences while improving this incredible island.

Jennah Bosch - Secretary

I am the mother of an 8 year old self-proclaimed mermaid princess.  I work full time as a registered veterinary technician, and have been in the profession for over 20 years.  I have recently, in the past 2 years, decided that what I needed in my life was to help others in many different facets of volunteering.  I have volunteered at Carolina Beach Elementary with my daughter’s school in the past, but joining the Island Women has opened my eyes to so many new opportunities to help others.  I have worked with the Little Free Libraries for the past year, started volunteering at Martha’s Kitchen, and am the chairperson for the Member Care Committee.  I am excited and look forward to what’s to come this year with the IW

Gail Smyth

Gail Smyth – Treasurer

I spent 30+ years in Boston enjoying a successful career in the financial services industry. As a single woman nearing retirement and tiring of city life, I purchased my home here in 2006 to be close to family and of course, the beach. I am ‘outdoorsy’ by nature so most days you can find me playing with my sweet Welsh Terrier Zoey, gardening, walking, or being on or near the water enjoying laughter with my friends. I joined IW in August of ‘09 and served as Board Secretary in 2010 and 2011. I am honored to have been elected to the Board as our new Treasurer for 2017/2018. As an active member of IW I have worked on many committees and even chaired a few. This past year I served on our By-Laws Committee, co-chaired our Martha’s Kitchen Committee and spearheaded our IW Sea Turtle Project Team. I welcome you to Island Women and hope you find something that will fulfill one of your passions, or help you find a new one!

Kathy Murray - Member at Large
I am a mom of two college age daughters and a widow. I moved to the island in August 2015, from Colorado, without knowing a soul. I looked online for organizations that I thought I would be interested in. Upon entering the first Island Women meeting I knew that these were my kind of people! I love the diversity of the things you can volunteer for and the social groups you can join. There is a niche for everyone. I have never been in a group of women that care more for their community and each other. My work background is in hospitality.

I moved to Kure Beach in April 2013 and asked around about what kinds of things were being done on the island.  Everyone I spoke to told me to check into Island Women.  I joined Island Women in August of that year.  I was interested in the Beautification Committee so I joined in October 2013 and helped with the decorating of the Carolina Beach Gazebo for Christmas. In  2014 I was asked to do ' something" with the Pavilion at the Lake for Christmas.  We turned it into a Gingerbread House and that was the beginning of my Beautification Committee career. We have expanded the Beautification Committee to maintain the gardens at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk from June to October. I am also the Chairperson for the Flocking Committee. I have made many friends through this organization and am so glad I found it.

Kay Rutkowski - Member at Large

My family fell in love with Pleasure Island on our first visit in the late 80’s.  My husband, Glenn, & I finally joined other family members moving to the area in 2015.  Recently retired from my position as the accounting and operations manager of a 1700-member non-profit association.  I also served as the Auxiliary President of the American Legion Post 1976 in Annandale Virginia.  I am looking forward getting to know the Island Women and sharing my experiences with them to continue their commitment to the community.
