February 2019 IW General Membership Meeting

Missed Pleasure Island Pageant-Karen and Mary Beth: Saturday, February 9 th ; 75 baskets for raffle; great fundraiser for IW; basket help Thurs 10a-4p, Fri 10a-4p 508 Sumter Ave (Karen’s house); moving baskets Saturday at 1p; can buy raffle tickets even if not attending but must be before 730p

SHE Committee-Maureen: line dancing 2/18 @ 4p @ community center-currently full; movie night 2/19, discount Tuesday-invite to follow; Trudie: 2/21 @ hoplite-pj party 6p-11p, designated driver’s available for $5 per person, band, food and alcohol specials, invite to follow

Reusable Bag Committee-Linda: this Wed, 2/13, ¼ page ad in Island Gazette, all sponsors listed
Literacy Committee-Sara: Little Free Libraries, openings for monthly maintenance, please contact Sara to sign up 

Treasurer’s Report-Gail: see attached treasurer’s report; planned giving budget for 2019 ~ $18,000; see attached planned giving budget; approximately $18,000 left in case needed for any reason for next year’s giving

2019 General Meeting Schedule and Locations-Kitty: March 6 th , am meeting; April 3 rd , pm meeting; May 1 st , am meeting, all at American Legion 

Misc Reminders/Updates-Kitty: various fundraising options-ideas to replace what use to be the Flip Flop Ball, all ideas welcome; every general meeting-please bring school supplies and snacks to donate to the schools-will put a list on the fb page; no personal advertisements on the Island Women FB page; tax help-see attached flyer; Island Men-Mac and Cheese fest-3/23; PLEASE update your info on the IW website; Chili cookoff @ high tide 2/23, 12p-3p for Megan Cajigas Foundation

Special Guests from NCOAE: 2 participants we supported through Education without Walls-Jack and
Ricky; they backpacked (with 50lb backpacks) through the forest, rock climbing, filtered their own water, using maps to figure out paths to campground, surfing, made them feel more important, have more confidence, took away great memories; last summer 20 scholarships available
