BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

Island Women helps maintain the landscape and gardens of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. Our objective is to help keep the island beautiful and make the Christmas display fun for everyone. 

 

BOOK TALK COMMITTEE

We have two evening and one morning monthly book clubs that meet to discuss a variety of different books and genres. Our goals are to enjoy reading and interact in a social and educational setting. 

CRAFTY CHICKS

Our mission is to channel our inner crafter to provide comfort items to people in need. We support IW’s programs and activities by offering handmade jewelry item and key chains for donations.

 

FUNDRAISING / RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Island Women relies on fundraising activities to support our community. We are always looking for new ideas to raise funds to help our beautiful island! 

 

ISLAND WOMEN BOARD

Steers the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies.

LITERACY COMMITTEE

Our mission is to explore opportunities, and coordinate implementation of approved literacy initiatives. We collaborate with the New Hanover County Library, our local elementary schools and the National Center for Outdoor Education and Adventure with literacy initiatives and activities. 

 

LOCAL SCHOOL - STUDENT SUPPORT COMMITTEE

Our volunteers work closely with the counselors at our local schools to support students in need with school supplies and food. 

 

MARTHA'S KITCHEN

This committee supports Martha’s Kitchen in Carolina Beach, feeding the needy living on or near Pleasure Island a hot meal every Tuesday and Thursday evenings. 

MEMBER CARE COMMITTEE

Provides meals and support to Island Women members in their time of need. 

 

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Welcomes and provides members with information that will help them become active members of Island Women. The team maintains and updates the Member Directory. 

 

 

MISSED PLEASURE ISLAND PAGENT

This committee works with Island Men to put on this historically sold out fundraising event featuring brave male contestants who take a walk on the wild-side in a full pageant gear including swimwear, talent and evening attire. 

 

REUSABLE BAGS

Picture a beach community with no plastic bags anywhere; this is the goal of the Reusable Bag Committee. Committee members are responsible for getting sponsor commitments and for the design and production of the annual bag. 

SEA TURTLE PROJECT

Each year the Island Women, in collaboration with the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project, are assigned a sea turtle nest to watch over each summer. This is a highlight of the summer for so many of our members and all are welcome to join.

 

SOCIAL/HEALTH/ENRICHMENT (SHE) COMMITTEE 

Charged with strengthening the social fabric of Island Women, this committee promotes education, cultural expression, and mentoring for women. 

 

SPECIALTY FLOCKING FUNDRAISER

Picture a flock of bright and cheerful pink flamingoes led by a specially-decorated flamingo in the yard of your family member or friend who is celebrating a special event. This project supports IW programs and activities. 

 

TECH TEAM

The Tech Team is responsible for maintaining the website, membership directory, IW Calendar and our social media presence (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter & YouTube).
