Mural #7: Indigenous Fly Feaster
By Tiffany Machler

Indigenous Fly Feaster Mural#7

This mural celebrates the Venus Flytrap, an insect-eating plant that grows naturally in our area. It was painted in a whimsical style by an artist who grew up here in Carolina Beach.

What colors did the artist use?

If you were painting this, what colors would you use?

Did you notice the mural also includes the benches and the awning?

Visit CB State Park

Every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., there is a ranger-lead walk/talk at the Venus Flytrap Trailhead.
Don’t forget to take bug spray!

If you go to the Ranger talk at the State Park, ask for a color sheet.  Once you’ve colored the sheet, return the sheet to Kate’s Pancake House.  They will have a little something for you. 😄

Venus Fly Trap

Did you know?

The Venus flytrap occurs naturally within a 75-mile radius around Wilmington, NC. Venus flytraps are perennial, carnivorous plants that can live up to 20 years and they eat BUGS!

The Venus flytrap is one of the few carnivorous plants that is able to move. It has two leaves that are hinged at the base. Each leaf has small hairs on the surface that trigger the plant to close when they are touched. The snap -trap leaves clamp down on small insects as fast as 1/10 of a second!
